REXUS/BEXUS

A German/Swedish Student Programme

unnamed.png

The REXUS/BEXUS programme is realised under a bilateral Agency Agreement between the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA). The Swedish share of the payload has been made available to students from other European countries through the collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA).

Experts from DLR, SSC, ZARM and ESA provide technical support to the student teams throughout the project. EuroLaunch, the cooperation between the Esrange Space Center of SSC and the Mobile Rocket Base (MORABA) of DLR, is responsible for the campaign management and operations of the launch vehicles.

Every year, a new project cycle of REXUS/BEXUS is started lasting for about 1.5 years. The REXUS rocket is a sounding rocket which is launched from the Esrange space centre in Kiruna, Sweden. It carries approximately 95kgs of payload which consists of student experiments from all over Europe. Since, the rocket provides around 3 minutes of a reduced gravity environment, it is the ideal platform to perform our experiment.

The student teams undergo a typical engineering project timeline starting from concept generation, design and analysis, testing, reviews, and finally launch. The teams gain hands-on experience through this unique opportunity and they interact with the various participating organizations throughout the project cycle. It is a great opportunity for student teams to experience the typical engineering project cycle within the framework of industry standards. Our team is participating in project 29/30 of the REXUS/BEXUS programme. The experiment will fly on the REXUS 30. rocket which will be launched in March 2021.
